At the Immersed in Change Conference held in Costa Rica at the beginning of June 2024, exactly one year before the 3rd UN Ocean Conference takes place in Nice, France in 2025, the Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean initiative became the Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean movement: a large number of entities joined as associated stakeholders.
Associated stakeholders are expressing their sympathy and support to the Protection Principle: making ocean protection the norm rather than the exception.
Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean was launched by the Varda Group in November 2023 with support from seven partner organizations with the aim of increasing ambition at the 3rd UN Ocean Conference through innovative approaches towards ocean protection.
In the months remaining before the 3rd UN Ocean Conference, the Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean movement’s partners and associated stakeholders will continue to work so that the transformative opportunity provided by the Nice conference is not lost. We must protect the ocean because the ocean is protecting us.
